The British Horseracing Authority has published the 2027 fixture list, with 1,440 fixtures currently scheduled, including 52 Premier Racedays.
Why does it matter?
A fixture list is more than a calendar. Its number, timing, location and quality affect horsemen, racecourses, betting turnover, media rights, staffing, ownership costs and opportunities for horses.
The BHA says its policy considerations include maintaining income to support investment aimed at retaining owners and breeders, addressing the declining horse population and supporting growth.
What should we watch?
Thoroughbred.Global will watch whether the programme contributes to measurable improvement in owner and breeder retention, horse population trends, field sizes, competitiveness and participant finances.
Thoroughbred.Global view
The better question is not simply “how many fixtures?” but “what outcomes is the fixture list designed to produce?” Connecting the calendar to ownership, breeding, funding and workforce pressures will be central to our coverage.
